European consumers may not even be able to buy presents this Christmas?

A survey by the Ifo Institute showed that 77.5 per cent of retailers saw shipping logistics problems as serious in August, and the Ifo researcher said: “It does not now look like the problem will ease up in the run-up to Christmas.”

95.5% of bicycle dealers are currently severely understocked. 95.5 percent of home appliance merchants and 95.7 percent of 3C product sellers also expressed concern that customers would have to wait a long time for delivery if the desired product was not on the shelves. 73.5 percent of toy sellers also suffer from this problem.

The main reason for the delivery problems is the continued downturn in shipping between Asia and Europe. According to a study by the IfW, about 11% of shipping vessels are affected, stuck in ports and unable to sail out.

Delivery difficulties mean that new arrivals are quickly snapped up. So far, however, inventory shortages are not the only reason consumers are starting shopping early. With the threat of inflation and rising costs, consumers must manage and spend their gift money more carefully.
